Collective Care Circle with Tayo and Chanel
Time & Location
About the Event
We belong to each other, especially in times like these. By practicing collective care, we can stay centered and responsive to shared priorities and values even in the face of unexpected change. Our collective care circle serves as a gathering place for self and body care that is embedded in community and fellowship with others. This workshop offers care practices that acknowledge how critical interconnectedness and interdependence are for collective well-being.
Together, we will explore check-ins, rest, dance, coherent breathing, tapping, movement, self-massage, journaling, meditation, and restorative yoga postures.
Have some drinking water on hand, blanket(s), some pillows (yes to pillows), something to write with, some lotion or massage oil for self-massage, and anything you would like to comfortably fellowship.
Register early as space is limited!
Workshop Cost: Your donations to participate are appreciated, but not required. The sliding scale cost to join us is $10 - $40. Your contributions support the instructors and our Pay It Forward yoga program. Your Collective Care Facilitators: Tayo holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology and is a graduate of Bella Prana’s 200 RYT. They have studied the role of embodied performance within activist collectives for over a decade. With knowledge garnered in this field coupled with a passion for social justice, they continue to identify novel ways by which to engage seekers towards personal and collective liberation. As a yoga teacher, researcher, and university profession, Tayo is committed to heeding the body’s wisdom and inspiring others to do the same.
Chanel is Director of the Bella Belonging Program. She was yoga-raised at Bella Prana, and it would take a few years after experiencing her first posture that she would become certified to share these teachings with others in 2016. Her wish is to encourage the expansion of yoga’s teachings to communities who have yet to experience it. Understanding that the lack of inclusion is complex, she is devoted to confronting and better understanding the many barriers that keep people away from wellness spaces. Chanel has years of training as a yoga teacher, as well as experience in diversity related work. While completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees, she developed formal curriculum and facilitated training around these topics throughout the region. She blends her lived experience, formal experience and yoga experience to create a strong sense of belonging in each of her classes and interactions. She believes you heal greater when you know and feel you belong to a community that truly sees you as already whole.
Pay It Forward Program Description: Breath & Body Alive in partnership with Bella Prana Yoga and Meditation is furthering its work to support access to yoga and other wellness modalities for all who seek it by asking our community to pay their yoga forward. You can donate money, individual classes, and even class packages into a collective pool from which current and new students may draw in order to support their practice. You might also volunteer a few moments to check in with members who desire such connection for interpersonal support and accountability.
We recognize that barriers to flourishing wellness practices are not only financial, but are also structural, systemic, logistical, and practical, among others. Our desire is to create a system to sustain one another so that we can grow together as a community of shared belonging. Anyone may request support through this pay-it-forward model, and we will work with you in a way that honors your whole self and your being-in-the-world. We believe fervently that it is just as good to receive as it is to give, and we practice that by receiving one another and offering our gifts in community.
Through a pay-it-forward model, we do not seek to predetermine your experience but rather to offer support for your experience to unfold in its own organic way.
